- 15 times more risk of dying from an SCA than a road accident.
- 60 times more risk of dying of a SCA than in a fire.
- ⅓ of the victims are under 55 years old. The paramedics observed that the average is 39 years old.
- More than 60% of SCA happens at home.
- 1600 victims per year within sport facilities.
Chances of Survival:
It is rare that a cardiac massage alone is enough to revive a victim suffering from a SCA
Sending an electric shock with a defibrillator, increases the chances of resuscitation.
Time is a key factor, because after 4mins lesions can cause damage to the brain. After 6mins the lesions can become irreversible.
Every minute counts, as the chances of
survival decrease by 10% every minute.
There is near to no chance of resuscitation after 10 mins.
With only 130,000 defibrillators accessible to the public (2018 data), France suffers from a crucial lack of equipment and the chances of survival are to date only around 3%!
Same number in the Netherlands but with 4 times less habitants, so the chances of survival are >10%.
The United States is better equipped and the chances of survival in certain cities sometimes exceed 60%.
Japan has already equipped itself with 600,000 defibrillators on an area less than ⅓ of France!

The Public Establishments are administered by millions of civil servants and they receive hundreds of thousands of citizens every day. Many employees of service comanies also work there regularly.Also the risk of a Cardiac Accident occurring there is very high.
School or learning Centers

Healthcare Professional
In a medical office, care center, ambulance, the risk of a patient’s sudden death from a heart attack is high.
The various pathologies and the often high average age of the patients considerably increase the risk of CA. Establishments must now be equipped with a defibrillator. (Decree 2018-1186), ART.R; 123-57
A Hotel / Restaurant or Camping
Equipping yourself with a defibrillator is reassuring when you receive so many clients per year.
For many customers, especially international ones, seeing a defibrillator in a hotel becomes a reassuring “standard”.
All ERP 1-2-3 and 4 classified hotels and restaurant must be equipped with a defibrillator (Decree 2018-1186)

Sports Club or Associations
The risk is higher than anywhere else! 1,600 deaths each year in sports sites in France!
A defibrillator must be present and accessible in all sport facilities, but another defibrillator must also accompany atheltes in transport to training camps or competition venues.
A defibrillator must be present and accessible on the premises and sites of the association and another defibrillator must also accompany members in their travels to social events. For this, there are light and transportable devices therefore suitable for travelling.
A Company
Many heat accidents occur in the workplace. The presence of a defibrillator is not yet compulsory in all companies, however the responsibility of the employer may nevertheless be engaged by virtue of its obligation to protect the physical health of its employees.
An SCA occurring at the workplace is always a tragedy! Business activities are disrupted and the victim’s colleagues will remain shocked for a long time. Conversely, the resuscitation of an employee, rescued by a witness equipped with a defibrillator, will generate a very positive atmosphere in the company.
A Shop/Market
A business, a shopping center or a shopping street, is by definiton a place called to receive a large number of people, whether they are workers or customers.
The cost of the equipment can be divided by all the shops on the street,etc. All shops classified ERP 1-2-3 and 4 must all be equipped with a defibrillator (Decree 2018-1186).
Public Transports
Coaches, tacis, the passenger transport sector is naturally largely concerned.
Knowing that ⅓ of fatal cardiac arrest concern the under55s and that they spare neither children nor adolescents, they can also occur in school buses and in athletes’ transports. An SCA occurring during an organized trip can seriously disturb all travelers and change all the course of the trip itself.
Care Home for the elderly or disabled
Given the average age and state of health of the people residing in these facilities, the risk of a SCA is extremely high! Decree 2018-1186 now requires all these establishments to have a defibrillator (before the end of December 2021)
Personal/ Private
More than 60% of SCA occurs at home. You therefore need to protect yourself and your loved ones, family, friends and visitors by equipping your accommodation. Some “general public” defibrillators are very affordable. If you are in a shared-house or co-owner of a building, you can reduce the cost by equipping the building collectively with a defibrillator. Talk to your neighbors and your trustee.
